“As We Came” is a provocative figurative series of the LGBTQ+ community through the sapphic gaze. These paintings lend a lovingly voyeuristic view of intimate moments we experience with one another. This body of work expands how we understand femininity, represents the diversity of women, and allows the audience to experience the fluidity of LGBTQ+ sexuality and identity.
Each painting involves an intimate discussion and collaboration with my subjects, specifically meant to negate stigmas and sexual regression and create a space of sexual belonging in art-making. I chose to paint in watercolor because the medium provides a visual representation of the fluidity and complexity of femininity.
